Highschool of the Dead Returning Next Month

As you can see in the image above, HOTD is scheduled to return in the May issue of Monthly Dragon Age on April 9. I'll have more information for you on Monday when I get my own copy of this month's issue. See you then.

Let's hope this doesn't get rushed/axed/put back in hiatus anytime soon.

    1. That is my biggest fear, almost all of shoji sato's, have rushed endings. Check out "Fire, Fire, Fire".

    2. Fire Fire Fire was forced to end abruptly because the magazine it was in went out of print, and that's the only series that has technically ended. I don't think there's any chance of Dragon Age ending publication. That being said, I think HOTD is close to running its course, and the end isn't too far off. I don't think there is a zombie craze in Japan like there is here right now to keep it going longer than it needs to. My guess is there will be two more volumes at most.

    3. I don't think we will see 2 more volumes at most. I definitely think HOTD will have somewhere around 60 - 70 chapters. There are so many things they can do to make story longer.
      -Introduce more people.
-There could be a war with people vs people. (I guess Takashi's group vs Shido's group)

Also I was wondering, do you guys think the virus is airborne? I know when Alice's dad died he didn't reanimate right after being killed, but we still don't know, maybe he did?

    4. True, but the question is not if they can make the story longer, it's if they want to. I don't think Daisuke Sato wants to drag the story on using cheap plot devices and hollow storylines. I wouldn't want to see that happen. Daisuke wants to start on new things, and Shouji Sato has his own stuff to work on. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just being realistic.

As of now, I believe the only thing we know is that people who are bitten are infected. We can't say for sure that Alice's dad didn't reanimate. I think this ambiguity is by design. We are not supposed to focus on the zombies themselves, but rather on society's reaction to them.

    5. Given Daisuke's track record, I have to agree with Turambar. Its unlikely we will see more than a couple new volumes, at most. Wether due to his health, his decision to not write due to the tragedies is Japan, or simply that he has a hard time finishing anything. It seems the fans outside Japan have inspired him to write a bit more HOTD, but likely just enough to finish it, at least finished in his mind.

Daisuke Sato has written a good story, but the best thing that could happen is him selling or giving the story rights to someone else, maybe Shouji. Someone who is not a slow writer and someone who will stick with it. This story could go on for a long, long time.

When we talk about 'they' continuing it, its really just about Daisuke, and his holding it up. I'm confident Shouji loves drawing the characters. Fujimi Shobo would have no issues publishing it. And even with Madhouse struggling, I'm confident Madhouse would love to create a second season of the anime.

Japan is crazy about zombies, that last Resident Evil movie made more money in Japan than it did in the US. Go figure.

    1. I wouldn't expect any news about the anime until at least 2-3 new chapters have been released and the hype grows again in Japan. I would guess the absolute soonest we would see new anime would be this fall, but I would say more realistically at least a year from now.
