Translator Needed

I've decided the time has come to publicly seek a Japanese to English translator for Triage X and Highschool of the Dead. Ideally, a single translator would do both series, but if someone only wants to do one or the other, I'm okay with that. I may be getting translation help from Renzokusei Scans for HOTD if I can't find someone willing to do it.

My primary concern right now is Triage X because I would like to get started right away. If you agree to help, you can get started using my monthly raws to start translating Volume 5 chapters as soon as you are ready. I expect this project to be pretty laid-back, with no real deadlines or anything. The scans are super high quality, so the translations likewise shouldn't be rushed. Since the scanlation is already so far behind, I'm not concerned about catching up.

I suppose more people will be interested in helping with Highschool of the Dead. I've already talked with Renzokusei, and I'm pretty sure I can get translation help from them. What I'm unsure about is if they will be able to get it done as fast as I would like. HOTDcups used to get new chapters done by himself (meaning scanning, editing, and translating) more or less within a day of receiving the magazine. I'm not going to ask more than a translator is comfortable with, but I would at least like to get close to his speed. At the very least, I need a translator who will put HOTD before any other translation projects until it is done, preferably getting me a script within a day or two (figuring in time zone differences) of my sending the raws. (Note: I'll make an obvious exception here if the chapter is well over 40 pages, which I expect the next one to be). I know this is a lot to ask, but if I can't find someone who can do this, I can work with Renzokusei.

Probably what would be best is if you start by translating a few Triage X chapters, then if you think you can meet the above stipulations, I'll have you translate the new HOTD chapter (out April 9). If it doesn't work out as smoothly as I hope, then I might consider going to Renzokusei for future chapters, and you would continue with Triage X.

Please contact me about translating only if you are serious. I am open to doing joints with other groups; just let me know when you contact me. Emails to turambar1@yahoo.com are preferred, but feel free to leave a comment below if you want.

One more thing: if you can't translate but know someone who can and may be interested, please send them here. Thanks.

  1. What happened to HOTDcups?
Won't he be working on it anymore?

    1. HOTDcups moved on with real life. It's just something that happens with scanlation.

    1. Sorry, but we don't have translations past Volume 9. So no, at least not for a while. If I find a translator, it is unlikely I will ask him or her to do another series on top of Triage X and/or HOTD.

    1. Oh don't worry, I'm excited. The only thing is I wasn't able to find a translator, so I guess I'm working with Renzokusei, which is great but it might take a little longer. The good news is my copy should ship on a Monday, meaning I should have it Wednesday. I'll at least be able to give some spoilers for those who care for them, though I would expect spoilers to begin appearing on Japanese sites as early as Friday.

  4. Turambar: We're all excited; I've got a timer counting down until the 9th of April right now. As for working with Renzokusei, how long do you think it would take for Act 30 to be done?

    1. I'm not sure how long it will take. I expect this to be an extra long chapter, so the translation will probably take twice as long as a typical chapter. Then there's the fact that Renzokusei usually works on dropped or stalled series, meaning their translators may not be used to working to get releases out as quickly as possible.

Just to keep it realistic for this first chapter, I would say expect it to be done about a week after the Japanese release. It could be less or more, but I really don't know what to expect right now.

    2. Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say anything negative about Renzokusei. They're a great group or I wouldn't be working with them. I just don't want to be too optimistic with the ETA and risk disappointing people.

Working with another group means I don't have total control over the time it takes. I just wanted to convey that.

  5. Hey there! Sorry for the offtopic but I wanted to ask if it's possible for to scan the "D.Y.N.FREAKS" manga from the next issue of the Dragon Age (and onwards)? I got this information from there:

I'm willing to donate if you would do this! (I'll get my credit card only on 10th though but after that it will be possible)

    1. A manga based on Lovecraft's Mythos? I would love to help this series get scanlated. Unfortunately, I can't even find translators for my current series right now, so there's really not much I can do. If another group is willing to pick it up, maybe I can contribute raws and do some editing.

    2. It's also from one of the Nitroplus writers responsible for their Demonbane visual novel.
I wasn't speaking about a translation though - only about the RAWs but if you'd be able to find somebody interested in working on this that would be really awesome!

    3. I looked into it and saw that it may be based more on a TCG than the actual works of H. P. Lovecraft. That makes it significantly less appealing to me.

As for posting the raws, I don't really have time to do another series right now. In any case, I'll have to wait until I see it to decide if it's worth considering.

  6. Will you be able to scan the new art of Mikoto and Saeko?

    1. Well it's printed on a huge poster, so probably not. Maybe I'll try to take a picture or something.

  7. Speedy_J here,

heads up, updates on Shouji Sato's personal page. He uploaded a new image of Saeko, and has a new diary post

    1. Yep. It doesn't look like he said anything too interesting though. Just building anticipation for the new chapter.

    2. That particular image is now my iPhone's wallpaper. Whilst it's not ecchi (though it doesn't need to be), it's still pretty awesome. I never noticed how dazzlingly blue her eyes were; it makes her all that more beautiful, I guess.

    3. Something I noticed was that her appearance has actually changed slightly in this and other recent illustrations. Shouji Sato said in his diary entry that when he started drawing the new chapter he realized he had forgotten how to draw some characters because it had been so long. It will be interesting to see how different some characters turn out.

    4. Indeed, it will be very interesting. Hoping it doesn't change too much.
