Plans for Complete File

Happy Star Wars Day everyone!

I got the TV-animation Complete File a couple days ago. It's actually pretty cool, and I'd recommend buying it even if you aren't a big fan of the anime. I was hesitant in deciding whether or not I would scanlate it before, but now that I have it, it doesn't look like it will be quite as much work as I thought. The dimensions are a bit different than the Secret Box, so I can actually fit an entire page on my scanner whereas I had to scan half a page at a time with the SB and join them together. This is probably going to be a slow project and posted in multiple parts. There will be some translations, but it probably won't be much. There are a lot of long interviews and descriptions that really wouldn't be worth the effort since it's just anime stuff. You can probably expect the first part in about two weeks, but it could be sooner if the editing isn't too difficult.

May the Fourth be with you!

  1. Now I'm even more tempted to order one, especially since HOTD probably won't receive a seperate artbook after this.

Could you give us a quick index of the contents? How many illustration pages, episode screencaps, interview pages, etc :)

  2. Nice. I have one in my cart at Amazon Japan; should be making my order in the coming days.

On a semi-related note, was there an artbook released for the series, but based off of the manga rather than the TV series?

It's broken into four chapters. The first is a character guide with concept sketches and interviews with the main cast. The second has a detailed guide to locations, weapons, and vehicles, and then a fifteen page illustration collection. The third has an eight-page interview with Tetsurō Araki (director), full episode guide, and OP and ED guides. The last chapter is a guide to the OVA. There aren't too many interview pages, but there is a lot of text.

Look on the Downloads page. Part 1 was done by Shouji Sato and is completely based on the manga. Part 2 is anime illustrations.

  4. Cool, thanks.
How were those artbooks released? Were they included with certain volumes or magazines? They weren't released as a standalone artbook, were they?

  5. They were released as a single art book last November in the December 2010 issue of Monthly Dragon Age. Some content from the manga part was re-released in the FCEs and some content from the anime part was re-released in the Complete File.

  6. Gotcha. Do you think it'd be worthwhile to go out of my way to hunt down this artbook, even though I will be buying the FCEs and the TV Anime Complete file?

  8. It includes a lot that isn't in the other releases, but it really depends on how much you're willing to pay. None of the sellers I've found on Amazon Japan ship outside Japan. You can get it from somewhere like Ebay for around $90 excluding shipping. Unless you're comfortable with paying that much or find it cheaper, I wouldn't buy it.

  9. Does the complete file have new content?

  10. There's a lot of new information and interviews, but it's all in Japanes. As far as images, there's concept art, maps, and some new illustrations of the locations. Other than that, it's pretty much all stills from the anime and anime-style illustrations from various magazines.

  11. It should be in the final stages now, but I'm not exactly sure. You may want to ask HOTDcups at Torpedo Tits.

  12. oh okay, I thought you were working with HOTDcups on volume 6

  13. Well I am, but my part is finished. The major editing and the translations are done, so I think all that's left is cleaning, levelling, and typesetting. That stuff shouldn't take too long.

  14. Hi there Turambar. I actually bought my copy of the Complete file guide a week ago. It was in a Japanese bookstore called Books Kinokuniya, which happens to be located in Manhattan! What luck!

I've noticed that you are planning to scan the book as well. If it's alright with you, I'd like to help out with the scanning and cleaning process. I have an All-in-One HP Photosmart Printer that has a scanner. I could probably scan one half and you can do the other. I really don't mind breaking apart my book either, since I've been looking forward to this.

Let me know if you are okay with this sort of thing. =)
