Complete File Chapter 4 - Caelum

Well, it has been 1 year and 19 days since my first HOTD Complete File release. It has taken much longer than I ever intended, but here, finally, is the fourth and last chapter of the anime guide book.

http://www.mediafire.com/?acvd1bjofcklutl

Or if you prefer the entire book, here it is in two parts:

Complete File Part 1
Complete File Part 2

This one is much shorter than the others and focuses on the "Drifters of the Dead" OVA. There doesn't really seem to be much point to it other than to promote the OVA. This book was released shortly after it.

If you weren't around for my original Complete File release, I said that I won't be translating it, and I doubt anyone else will either. It would be much more work than it's worth, and it probably wouldn't look that great. If you want to know what any of the names or titles are, ask me and I'll help you if I can.

There's another project other than Triage X that's being worked on right now, but I'm not going to say what it is just yet. You'll find out what it is soon enough. See you soon.

TV-animation Complete File Chapter 3 - Effugium

The third chapter is finally done. Only one more chapter left after this.

http://www.mediafire.com/?hrjalhgaaqcvrdn

This chapter, like the last one, has a variety of things. First is a long interview with Tetsuro Araki, the director of the anime. If you can't read Japanese, you probably won't be interested in that part. There's also a guide for each episode and for the opening and ending sequences. The coolest thing in this chapter is the Ending Gallery at the end. It shows many of the illustrations that appear as photos on the bulletin board during the ending credits with either the original manga illustration it was based on or an anime sketch next to each illustration.

The last chapter is much shorter than the first three, but I can't promise I'll have it done any sooner. I probably won't start working on it until after my usual Monthly Dragon Age update. It's really short, though, so it won't take long when I do start on it.

Dragon Age comes out a day early this month, but I probably won't get it until Monday because of the weekend. See you then.

TV-animation Complete File Chapter 2 - Orcus

I got this one done a bit quicker than I expected.

This chapter is called "Orcus," and it mostly contains profiles and information for locations, vehicles, and weapons. There's also a nice selection of anime illustrations from various magazines and other stuff. Many of them were in the HOTD art book, so those of you who downloaded my very first release (or got the raws from Torpedo Tits) will recognize them. The last page is a list of zombie movies, games, and books. It basically says you should supplement the anime with these things. Some of them are directly referenced in the anime and manga, and I guess the others were inspirations for the anime staff or the series in general. For those of you who don't know, "Bio Hazard" is the Japanese title of Resident Evil.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but my scanner isn't quite big enough for the huge size of the Complete File, so a little portion of the top and bottom of each page is cut off. Nothing important is lost, though. I think I should get the next chapter out in roughly the same amount of time as this one, which was around three weeks. I'm moving on to Triage X Volume 4 now, and I won't start on the next chapter of this one until that's done.

I'll try to keep you updated on how Triage X is coming along, but I probably won't say anything more about it until my part of the editing is done. That's all I'll say about it for now. See you later.

TV-animation Complete File Chapter 1

Remember a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) when I said I was going to scan the Highschool of the Dead anime Complete File? Well, I gave you half of the first chapter after a long delay and then seemingly forgot about it. I actually didn't forget, I just didn't have time to work on it. I had to rescan most pages and basically start the whole thing over, but I finally have the first chapter, titled "Mortalis," done in its entirety. So, finally, here it is:

http://www.mediafire.com/?oq5lys0vbjctnyc

In case you don't know, this is the guide book for the HOTD anime that came out in April 2011. It contains character profiles, information about weapons and vehicles, cast and crew interviews, episode guides, and more. The first chapter is about characters, both major and minor, and it has interviews with the major voice actors. I'm treating the Complete File like an art book, which means I am leaving it untranslated. The only things I would be able to translate by myself anyway are titles and names, but you won't be missing much without those.

Amazon is now selling Shouji Sato Artworks, so I will be able to get a copy for sure now. I probably won't scan the entire thing, but I will scan any new illustrations that it contains. It ended up costing a bit more than I had been hoping, so I just wanted to ask you to please donate if you can. I may have to pay separate shipping for this and the September issue of Dragon Age even though they caome out on the same day, so I would appreciate any help you can give.

I don't know when I'll finish Chapter 2 of the Complete File, but it won't take nearly as long as this one took. In the meantime, I would recommend buying your own copy at Amazon or another online store. The shipping is costly, but it's definitely worth it.

Update and Future Plans

Well, my summer break turned out to be much busier than I had planned. As such, I haven't had much time to continue working on the TV-Animation Complete File. I have to admit I really haven't even finished the first chapter. There were some setbacks and I had to rescan some pages, but everything is now set for me to resume work on it. I apologize for the long delay. Of course, I'll still be giving the Torpedo Tits projects (i.e. FCE and Volume 7) priority over the Complete File. The good news is I have a very light semester this fall, so I shouldn't have trouble finding time to work on all of them.

There doesn't seem to be any new releases coming in the near future, so the only other thing I'll be releasing is probably Heroine vs Heroine each month. Just to be safe, I can't say the Complete File will be released any sooner than one chapter a month with chapter 1 being ready about a month from now. It could happen before then, but I'm not making any promises. There's a good chance that the next time you hear from me will be around September 10 when I get the next issue of Dragon Age. I'll see you guys then.

Volume 7 Standard Edition Covers

I promised this a while ago, so here it is. I've actually had it for several days, but I was too busy to scan it. I apologize for the delay.

I know it seems pointless to upload such a small file, but it seems easier than posting the images and letting you manually download them. This is definitely my favorite cover yet. Rei looks great. Much better than Saeko on her covers anyway. I'm about to start working on the next part of the Complete File, so expect that within the next two weeks. There may also be another surprise coming sometime before then, but I can't guarantee anything at this point.

Complete File Chapter 1: Mortalis (part 1)

It's been nearly a month and I've finally finished the first part of the Complete File. This turned out to be much more work than I had thought, so I've decided to release each chapter in two parts. This is the first 30 pages, which is half of Chapter 1 and about a fifth of the book. Here it is:

Mediafire
Thank you to Shinji for providing the raw scans.

This part contains character profiles for the four main female characters, and the remainder of the first chapter will have profiles for Takashi, Kohta, Alice, and most of the minor characters. I'm not really sure when the next part will be done, but it may be much sooner as I'm beginning to develop a good rhythm. Before I start on it, though, I need to catch up on some stuff for the FCEs.

I will no longer be scanlating Highschool of the Head. HOTDcups decided to do it, so I'll be helping him with his. I may, however, be releasing something else in the near future, but I won't say what that is just yet. One more thing: I just wanted to let you know that any revenue generated by clicking ads or the Amazon store goes to buying raws. Importing from Japan isn't cheap.

News and Complete File Update

If you haven't already heard, there is no new Highschool of the Dead chapter in this month's Monthly Dragon Age. I think it says in the magazine that there won't be a chapter next month either-or it doesn't say there will be one at least-but that could change later this month. Instead of a new chapter, the extra chapter "DEAD Illusion" was included in color just like "Cos-play of the Dead" did a few months ago. This is seemingly a preview of the next Full Color Edition volumes, if there are any more. HOTDcups is going to scan it, but in the meantime, I scanned the cover of Dragon Age for you.

Now onto the Complete File. First I'd like to welcome my new helper, Shinji, who is providing the raw scans. He graciously offered to unbind his copy, something I wasn't going to do, so you can thank him for the much cleaner product that will result from his raw scans. The Complete File is divided into four chapters, and I plan to release the first three individually. I'll release the fourth last along with the entire book. There is a small number of names and titles which could be or already are translated, but I don't think I'm going to put them in. It just wouldn't look good having only a few areas of English text among the Japanese. You'll be able to find all of the information on the HOTD Wiki once we get it all on there. I may put the translations in when I release the entire book, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

On the other hand, I probably won't scan the Highschool of the Head volume until I can get it translated, so if you or anyone you know can translate Japanese to English, I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Look for the first part of the Complete File within the next week or two.

Update: There was a problem with Blogger recently that caused this post to be removed and may have prevented some of you from commenting or viewing the blog. The problem should be fixed now. For the trouble, here's some excellent artwork by Shouji Sato that was included with the Highschool of the Head volume. You Saeko fans will enjoy it.

Plans for Complete File

Happy Star Wars Day everyone!

I got the TV-animation Complete File a couple days ago. It's actually pretty cool, and I'd recommend buying it even if you aren't a big fan of the anime. I was hesitant in deciding whether or not I would scanlate it before, but now that I have it, it doesn't look like it will be quite as much work as I thought. The dimensions are a bit different than the Secret Box, so I can actually fit an entire page on my scanner whereas I had to scan half a page at a time with the SB and join them together. This is probably going to be a slow project and posted in multiple parts. There will be some translations, but it probably won't be much. There are a lot of long interviews and descriptions that really wouldn't be worth the effort since it's just anime stuff. You can probably expect the first part in about two weeks, but it could be sooner if the editing isn't too difficult.

May the Fourth be with you!

Volume 7 Scans

I got Volume 7 today. I promised some scans so here they are:

Mediafire

There's not much there, and I didn't get too deep into editing. I just did the slip cover, inner cover, the first color page (actually a pullout two-page spread), and the OVA BD case. That's all for now because I need to work on the FCEs. The standard cover wasn't included with the special edition, so if anyone wants me to scan that, it will have to be in a couple of weeks when I get it. I'll let you know if I decide to do all of Volume 7, but for now I'm not planning on it.

The next release from me will be the TV Animation Complete File, which I should get by Monday. I'm not sure if many of you are even interested in that, but it's still HOTD and I'm sure it has plenty of fanservice. After that, I may do the "Highschool of the Head" volume if I can get someone to translate (let me know if you're interested).

One more thing; I wanted to share with you my favorite scene from the OVA, "Drifters of the DEAD". Enjoy!

Best anime kiss ever!

Volume 7 Shipped and New Features

I just wanted to let everyone know that my copy of Volume 7 has shipped. I could get it as early as tomorrow or as late as Monday, so stay close. The Complete File hasn't shipped yet, but CDJapan usually doesn't take long, so I'm expecting it around the same time.

I'm sure most of you have noticed the changes to the sidebars. First of all, I added a couple ads. I can't tell you to click on them, but I will tell you that they are supposed to become more relevant to the blog's content and demographic over time, so you may see stuff you're interested in. I have to ask that you don't click them excessively to help me. I know your intentions are good, but it will actually hurt me if certain IPs are clicking too often.

The other new feature is something I'm very excited about. I'm proud to present my very own Amazon aStore. In the store, I've conveniently compiled all of the "Highschool of the Dead" merchandise available on Amazon.com. This is my way of helping all of you find "Highschool of the Dead" products, and I'm helping to support the authors in the process. Unfortunately, it will only include products from the English version of Amazon.com, but I may eventually feature products from Amazon Japan or CDJapan. I hope you don't think I'm selling out with all of this. I've always posted links to Amazon anyway; this is just making it easier for everyone.

New Project: TV Animation Complete File

2011 has already been a huge year for HOTD, and there's yet another release to add to the plethora of new products: the Highschool of the Dead TV Animation Complete File. It's a 160-page anime guide book that's supposed to have detailed information on all twelve episodes and the OVA, interviews with cast and staff, illustrations, maps, and more. The guide book is set to be released on April 26, the same day as Volume 7.

I have the guide book pre-ordered, and as of now I'm planning on scanning it. I can't promise translations at this point, but if there are translations, they will likely be very limited. From what I can tell, there's quite a lot of text with all of the interviews and stuff, so it would be bothersome to translate the whole thing. I will most likely post it in several parts and then post the entire thing at the end. Even doing it this way, each part will still take a while because it's in A4 size (same as the Secret Box) meaning I have to scan each page twice and join them together. This could take a long time with all color pages. I'm thinking I could realease about 10-15 pages a week, but I may do more or less depending on how much work it requires and how I decide to divide the pages up. I'll post more information when I get the book.

As for Volume 7, I'll only be doing the entire thing if HOTDcups doesn't do it. If I end up doing it, it will take priority over the Complete File. Also, the work I'm doing on the FCEs will take priority over everything. I guess I have a busy Summer ahead of me.
